My name is Mrs. Deirdre Schmid and I am honored to be your child's art teacher here at Prairie Trail School. This is my ninth year of teaching, and my fourth year teaching art. The kids and I are learning together and having so much fun doing so.
A little about me...
My name is Deirdre Towrie Schmid and I am originally from the Orkney Islands, in the north of Scotland. I came to America when I was 18 years old to take a "gap year" before University. I fell in love with America and decided that while nannying for seven children, I would get my teaching degree at the same time. During that time, I also met my husband, Henri, and decided that America was to be my home.
In 2005, I got my first job teaching 3rd grade at O'Plaine School (what PT used to be called). I then switched to teaching kindergarten at Spaulding School for three years before Freya (13) and Gunnar (10) were born and I made the decision to stay at home with them. However, as much as I loved being home with my "bairns," I missed teaching and my District 56 family. So, after working as a special education aide for a year, I applied for my DREAM JOB as an art teacher at Prairie Trail School! I am so excited to be back working in our district and I love teaching your children.
