Students learned about the Mexican holiday "Dia de los Muertos" (Day of the Dead) and how it is a beautiful tradition dating back to the Aztec people. 3rd grade learned about symmetry (math connection) and how to make their "calaveras" symmetrical using a tracing technique. They learned how to do a super fun printing process using foil and Mr. Sketch smelly markers (Crayola markers work too, but smelly markers are so much more fun!) and their reactions when they revealed their prints were so great. I explained to students that this is a simple technique they can do at home with paper, markers and aluminum foil.
